Open Roaming and Passpoint: What's the Point?

With so much talk about Open Roaming and the use of Passpoint to authenticate to any qualified network without the need for credentials everywhere you go, not to mention the magic behind the solution to all of your cellular to Wi-Fi offloading, I will dissect these buzz words and what they really bring to the table.
